David Slotwiner, M.D., is the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory at New York Presbyterian Queens and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College with appointments in the Department of Medicine and the School of Health Policy and Research.   His interests include medical device safety, device surveillance, health information technology data standards and interoperability.  He serves on the FDA’s Circulatory Systems Devices Panel, Chairs the Heart Rhythm Society’s Health Policy Committee, and represents the Heart Rhythm Society at the American Medical Association’s Resource Based Relative Value Committee.  As Co-Chair of the Cardiology Domain of Integrating the Health Care Enterprise he has lead the development of the Implantable Device Cardiac Observations Integration Profile, an interoperability profile standardizing data elements essential to managing patients with implantable pacemakers and implantable defibrillators.  The profile has been recognized and adopted by all manufacturers of cardiac rhythm management devices.  Dr. Slotwiner is presently chairing the Heart Rhythm Society’s Health Policy Statement on Structured Reporting for Cardiac Electrophysiology and working with the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry to develop registries for atrial fibrillation ablation and percutaneous left atrial appendage closure therapy.
